Accuvant Approved as PCI DSS Qualified Security Assessor in Canada
-- Company PCI Expert to Present at IAPP Canada Privacy Symposium 2011 –
Toronto – April 27, 2011 – Accuvant, the only research-driven information security partner delivering alignment, clarity and confidence to enterprise and government clients, today announced that it has successfully met all Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Council requirements to perform PCI data security assessments in Canada and has been approved as a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) company.
Since it was established earlier this year, Accuvant’s Canadian headquarters, located within Brookfield Place in Toronto, has been helping Canadian organizations assess and address complex PCI concerns. This new PCI certification takes those capabilities one step further. Accuvant is now able to leverage its extensive PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) QSA experience with U.S.-based Fortune 100, as well as small to mid-size companies, to complete PCI Security Council-sanctioned assessments for Canadian enterprises and report on compliance.
“Rather than viewing compliance as an unjustified expense, organizations need to think of it as an integral part of an overall risk-based approach to ensuring proper data lifecycle,” said Doug Landoll, Accuvant’s risk and compliance management practice director. “Accuvant’s strength lies in our ability to help clients implement complete and well-functioning security programs that achieve compliant status, adapt to ongoing changes, and do so through cost-effective, scalable processes.”
Industry experts agree that organizations that take a strategic approach to maintaining PCI compliance will experience fewer data breaches. Accuvant’s full suite of PCI offerings begins with a comprehensive assessment of a company’s entire IT environment to determine the gaps between the current and desired security posture. Accuvant experts then help clients put in place the processes and procedures to ensure complete compliance with industry, government and internal policies, and work with clients to maintain that security posture over time.
Also today, Accuvant announced that PCI expert Evan Tegethoff will give an in-depth presentation about “PCI Myths and Mistakes” at IAPP Canada Privacy Symposium 2011 in Toronto on Friday, May 6. Tegethoff will discuss current PCI compliance statistics, top vulnerabilities from compromised merchants, ongoing compliance management, PCI policy and standards requirements, and PCI scope and elimination.
Accuvant’s team of risk and compliance management professionals, which includes Tegethoff, is comprised of industry thought leaders. They participate on a number of PCI Council special interest groups discussing tokenization, encryption, virtualization, and DSS scope reduction, as well as frequently speak on security, risk and compliance trends at industry conferences such as BlackHat, RSA’s annual conference, Gartner panels, and dozens more. The staff also actively contributes to many industry publications and has authored a number of books.
